  2. Google and other sites might have your information today, but if you control your content, eventually, all the data they have will be out-of-date.

    The relevance is clear if you start to search for activist stuff from 10 years ago. It’s still up. It’s still there for posterity, but the emails are mostly different. The phone numbers are probably old. The people are the same 🙂 but they were operating in the open already.

    Get off of their services if you can. Stop using webmail, and get an imap mail server.

    • the challenge is getting people we know to stop using google and other corporate services. I know for walton and I we use hangouts to do the show, but I with mayfirst folks are working on a way to broadcast it with the use of webrtc and icecast, things are developing on both ends there. But I agree there are limitations to what we can do in suggesting people to leave the webmail and go imap and gpg-key and all. It is a big challenge.
